Tip Top Shape marks Marial Eve Moon's (Seasick Mama's) second EP offering, and while this particular compilation of tracks doesn't feel like a complete departure from her earlier work, the growing process is definitely evident when you listen to both bodies of work back-to-back. That's not to say that her first EP, Dead Like Money, was lacking in any way, but the way Tip Top Shape builds upon some of the sound elements from the original, and then thrusts them center stage, indicates a certain type of sonic evolution that a lot of bands fail to achieve. Everything seems a bit more analog that usual with these tracks, and the synth work has all but been replaced by instruments of a more tangible persuasion. With its faster pace and high energy, "Gimme Somethin More To Work With" has been getting the most traction so far, but "Holy Smokes", "Bite Bullet", and the rest of the EP for that matter, all offer great listens as well. Seasick Mama's music is as hard to peg as their aesthetic, but their sound is refreshing, and while it might not be something you're used to, it's definitely something you'll like.
