Scholar seems to be another ambiguous, ready-to-emerge electronic act out of Australia without much they're willing to impart with aside from their sound, but, as always, we can't complain when the music's good. Fortunately for all of us, Scholar's music is good, and, even better, it isn't as obscenely bright and bustling as a lot of their Aussie counterparts'—so it's going to be more palatable (and enjoyable) than the majority of other electronic works spewing from the region. To be absolutely fair, the sound of "Skin" does lean a bit more towards the active side of the sonic spectrum than the passive one, and despite Scholar fancying themselves as "purveyors of lush electronic sounds and slow grooving [sic] disco", it's not without pulsating bass, repeating samples, and swirling synths that the Brisbane-based act's latest track comes alive. It definitely has that described disco element to it—affording it a kind of sonic refreshment that helps enhance its overall novelty factor—but even without it, the offering has enough alive, dance-worthy elements in it to catch on to the ears of those who've grown familiar with the influx of Australian electronic over the past year or so.
