There are a couple of things I've noticed with all of these Melbourne producers I've been coming across lately. Firstly, they've never a Twitter account, which really doesn't mean all that much, but it's become more than a mere coincidence, and I suspect some Australian conspiracy behind it all, but I digress. Secondly, there seems to be this ongoing connection with a music collective called S O M I C O that caters to young, electronic artists, which is pretty cool. And finally, their sound is always amazing! I really can't remember the last time I've come across a less-than-stellar work by an Australian artist (most of my recent illuminations have been of the Melbourne variety). SBMRGE is the latest from the land to (unsurprisingly) impress, and his intimate "AGAIN" instrumental is exceptional sounding, to say the least. It begins with a bit of an anxious tone, but the emergent synths and clapping percussion that follows is able to elevate modestly the spirit of the track, at least, for bits at a time. Intermittent hats and forlorn voice modulations come after to coat the effort, with the latter especially dominating the gist of it, and it never really allows the agitated atmosphere to ever dismantle, though, much of the instrumental's attraction is, in fact, derived from that very vibe. "AGAIN" proves to be a bit of emotionally charged affair, then, but one we can appreciate for its intricacies as well as for its disquieted attitude.
