Góða Tungl

Music is truly a medium that transcends language. You don't have to understand what is being said to feel what it means, to be swept up and taken by the emotional response to a song. Icelandic group Samaris are masters at crafting this type of ambiance with their music, an atmosphere that makes you sit up and take notice, as if they were purposefully plucking each of your heart strings. The members of Samaris met and formed in 2011 in Reykjavik, and within months had won both the Icelandic Músíktilraunir (past winners include the likes of Of Monsters and Men) and Kraumur Award. Their debut track "Góða Tungl" from their self-titled debut album (which dropped yesterday in the UK) is a piece of art, pure and simple. And while the lyrics might be hard to understand for anyone not born in Iceland, it really doesn't matter - it's pretty easy to feel.
