Sam Cohen — Kepler 62

Sam Cohen

Kepler 62

Though we've seen some rock acts experience phenomenal success over the past few years (Tame Impala, Temples, The Preatures), we've also noticed the genre to be one of the most difficult to execute properly nowadays. Former frontman of The Yellowbirds, Sam Cohen, doesn't seem to be aware of that conundrum, however, because with his new single, "Kepler 62", he's found a spot on that list of excellent modern-day rockers. The song of his is partly psychedelic and partly retro, but there's also a sprinkle of cosmic vibes interspersed within. Knowing no strict structure, "Kepler 62" progresses through an upbeat opening portion that contains unrestricted guitar bursts and celestial synths, but the song mellows out a bit during the latter half, easing ultimately into smooth, dreamy segments that convey visions of poppy fields and blue skies. If you're a fan of dynamic psychedelic rock, Sam's debut is going to be right at home with you, and if you're looking for more material from the artist, know that the track is a part of an upcoming, Easy Sound Recording Co-released LP.
