Two months ago, we posted Salt Cathedral's absolutely infectious indie-pop number, "Tease", and just two weeks ago, we posted a similarly absorbing remix of the track by Kodak to Graph. Each worked to entrance us, and we saw at the root Salt Cathedral's unwavering, absolutely wonderful sound they don't seem keen on conforming to any that's been done before. No, their sound is something much more ambitious, something from the soul and nowhere else, and really, that's how it ought to be. Their new track, "Holy Soul", backs up this claim, and as their latest from OOM VELT releasing later this month (August 25th, to be specific), it's indication of a project to behold. With what sounds to be a rhythmic chant, "Holy Soul" begins, and with it, a sonic anticipation is built. Twenty seconds in, and the track blossoms into a beautiful vocal ballad thanks to lead singer Juliana Ronderos, and alongside her charged tone comes slow, powerful instrumentation to back it up. It's all massive in scale, but not overwhelming, per se; it's like an effortless awe you receive from watching waves crash, or looking up into the night sky. "Holy Soul" grips us in much this regard, and its cool confidence and daring aesthetic keeps not only our affection intact, but our attention for what more the unafraid three-piece has to share.
