We've got a brand-new name for you to get excited about today, and if you were looking for a new artist to add to your favorites, look no further, because Rukhsana Merrise has got one of the coolest new sounds we've recently come across. Rukhsana's a solo singer and songwriter based out of the UK, and as far as we can tell, she's just now getting her career off the ground. "So They Say" is her most recent effort, and though it's only her third track on SoundCloud (the new authority for an artist's back catalog, apparently), we just found out that it'll actually be a part of her first officially released project where she puts out a new song every week for the month of September. As for the track itself, Rukhsana labeled it as folk music on its related SoundCloud page, but right away, your ears will pick up all sorts of other influences, and the beat that forms the backbone of the track is like nothing you'd find in a more traditional offering of the sort. The pacing is relatively relaxed throughout the runtime, but her voice is surprisingly powerful, and by about halfway through the track, your attention will probably be redirected to fact that this girl's voice is just as good as a lot of the major names that are buzzing right now. Alongside "So They Say", we've included a year-old effort of the singer's, "Tears O' Freedom", that went as under the radar as Rukhsana's own name over that stretch of time. So while you start to familiarize yourself with the singer on the back of this post, be sure to check her work from the past and present, as it's all material to be keenly aware of going forward.
