Over the past couple months, we've been observing a small burst of musical talent from Nashville, Tennessee, and one of the most promising new acts from the area has been Ruelle, a collaboration between vocalist Maggie Eckford and several different producers. Her first released single, "Up in Flames", actually received airtime on various TV shows before being shared online, and one listen to the incredibly cinematic track reveals why. Shortly thereafter, she upheld her sound with another appealing electro-pop effort, "Big Guns", and now, she's finally released her powerful debut EP, Up In Flames. The last track on the two-day-ago-released project, "Until We Go Down", actually grabbed our attention more than any other alongside it, and as a result, we've it here featured first. Ominous synths introduce the piece, but ensuing piano keys and soundscapes can be considered the calm before what sonic storm ensues. A little over a minute into the song, an ensemble of orchestral instrumentation builds suspense at a dangerous rate, and the track is then pulled back to a moment of suspenseful silence that's shattered by a tidal wave of colossal brass, crackling synths, and floor-shaking bass. If you're not in the mood for something as heart-stopping as "Until We Go Down", then give "Fear on Fire" a listen. Although it isn't necessarily a "light" track, it is a bit more of a casual listen than the aforementioned one. Ruelle does manage stick to their highly passionate, large-scale sound on the effort, nevertheless, and that's exactly what we like about them and the effort here. At this point in the post, it goes without saying, but if you're a fan of any kind of invigorating electro-pop, be absolutely sure to purchase Up in Flames.
