Royce Wood Junior is one of those jack-of-all-trades artists; he sings, produces, and writes songs. Since he's collaborated with the likes of Kwabs and Rosie Lowe and has only released one track, "Furthermore", with his vocals on them (all efforts are featured on his debut EP, Tonight Matthew), we're still only getting to understand what his sound is like, but now he's a new track in "Rover" that's giving us a greater glimpse into what he's to offer us in regard to his original work. His forthcoming EP, Rover, too, promises to be all his work and not feature any guest vocalists, so at that time, we'll know firmly what Royce Wood is all about. With his previously released EP, Tonight Matthew, there were tracks like the aforementioned Kwabs-featured "Nuff" and Rosie Lowe-assisted "Hardly"—both efforts were great—but you wouldn't say they were experimental-sounding at all. With "Rover", however, we're perhaps hearing what Royce's sound is truly like as he dips into the kind of experimental-leaning soundscape that would find him sitting alongside Oceaán with jarring, purposely disorganized arrangements within his production. It's a promising sign of things to come on the EP, surely, and it has us looking forward to hearing him further expand on the bold sound offered here.
