Ro Ransom is developing into one of the most dynamic, well-rounded hip-hop artists of this generation. He is known in rap circles for entertaining his darkest inclinations and venting over sinister instrumentals, and on "Doppelgänger", his latest track, he expands the reach of his art. "Doppelgänger" begins with a lamentation of lost love before erupting into a hook that could fit right into Justin Timberlake's discography, and the track then breaks down around the two-minute mark for Ro to properly address the end of this relationship. Swiftly, the track reverts back to that Timberlake-esque, club-ready chorus, and it is really a tribute to both Ransom and the song's producers, Brenton Duvall and Sweater Beats, that it stays light and upbeat while taking on a serious subject matter.
