In this golden age of music discovery, saying that you have followed an artist or band since the beginning has begun to lose its luster. With LA-based duo RKCB, though, we can say it in earnest we were with them from the start, as we were able to showcase their incredible debut release, “Comatose” almost three years ago. Since that day, we have followed them with keen interest as they have continued to mature and evolve, and, with a seemingly endless string of quality tracks, they have now arrived at their sophomore EP, In Contrast. Opening with the emphatic notes of previously released “Elevated”, the EP’s five tracks are a sonic arena providing ample room for singer Casey Barth to maneuver through the territories of traditional R&B, pop, and soul. Guiding his way, as always, is the unfaltering prestige of the production from Riley Knapp, who is particularly sharp here with luscious, previously unheard arrangements of “Disorder” and the dirty, low-end beats of “Restless”. The In Contrast EP is an absolute gem of a release that showcases the strengths each individual brings to the table, and it is definitely one that you should get your hands on immediately.
