RHODES — Morning

RHODES

Morning

Rhodes' "Morning" starts off at a snail's pace, and then it opens up into a big chorus where you're just itching for a huge panoramic set of chords to follow and bring the track home. Rhodes doesn't doesn't oblige, though; instead, he pulls back and settles into a cycle of builds that eventually recede back into understated guitar notes and ghostly textures that make the whole package feel hollow and light. However, after listening for a couple more minutes, you'll realize that was probably his plan all along, and then you'll feel silly for anticipating anything less. RHODES was never one for in-your-face sounds, and this track off his new, similarly titled EP keeps with that precedent while also taking it to new levels of refinement. Don't come into this one expecting the listening experience to be handed to you on a silver platter; rather, be ready to be amazed by the subtle vocal work and amazing attention to detail employed. You won't be disappointed, and to reward you for your patience, RHODES ends the track off with an impressive display of sound layering which gives you that sense of panorama you were hoping for all along. The track is a part of one of the more accomplished four-part EPs we've come across in a while, so make sure to grab it on iTunes after you soak it all in here.
