It's been some time since we last posted the kind of electronic pop-rock that the burgeoning Melbourne trio Return To Youth’s newest release, “Storm”, exudes, but the effort, coming on the heels of their debut EP, Sail Away, has over-the-top quality that we have to share. Guitarist Matt Hallett’s strongly dictated yet reverbed notes spearhead the above-average effort that continues the band’s melodic-pop journey into a vibrant musical world, and the additional, lustuous rhythms employed are complemented by smooth and entertaining work on the drums by Allan McTaggart and Marites’ soothing vocals, which truly rival the talent of any prominent pop star. The track’s progressive sounds gain strength as the tune goes on, beginning with a dreamy tone before seemingly normalizing and returning to earth. The band’s sound is not even slightly inferior to that of one of its influences, Florence and the Machine, and this is a feat not easily accomplished in the early throes of a new act as they are. Return To Youth's aforementioned four-track EP (of quite equal character to "Storm") is available for purchase on their Bandcamp, and you may want to give it a try as well, as the complete selection of the band’s songs is sure not to disappoint. Either way, it's best that you give this emphatic new effort of theirs a go, because it's absolutely aglow with the kind of potential that could see them on a path to success. EDIT: It appears, much to our dismay, that RTY has already seen their time close as a band. This bit of news makes going through their back catalog all the more appealing now, but with all sincerity, we wish Marites, Matt, and Allan all the best with their present and future endeavors!
