REAPER

REAPER is the new musical project by JJ Scheff, a college-aged engineer-turned-artist from Los Angeles. His self-titled debut EP, which we're featuring here, is one comprised of four very different-sounding tracks that pull influences from the '70s and updates them for modern ears, and we're digging them all. Listening to the EP's opening track, "funeral", is like witnessing an extremely rare, time-defying Travis Scott set at Woodstock, and, from there, the EP only gets more interesting. On "three thirty" and "sleepy", Scheff delves deeper into his vintage influences, experimenting with hazy sounds and beat switches that we enjoy. As a whole, the REAPER EP offers a glimpse at what feels like the cusp of a totally new sound that should appeal equally to fans of Tame Impala and the previously acknowledged Scott. Stream it in full below, and watch for more from him as well.
