Real Cosby — Heav'n

Real Cosby

Heav'n

We posted a relatively obscure, but entirely intriguing bit of electronic by Denver producer Real Cosby in the form of "Always" about a month ago, and admitted our interest in his then-forthcoming EP that he was later to release. Well, "later" is "now", and with the four-track work in its entirety now at our disposal, we can say that our anticipation was for anything but naught. Each of the three other tracks on the EP are riddled with shifty textures and fanciful soundscapes, very much in line with what we've come to expect from electronic heavyweight Chrome Sparks, but, Real Cosby has his own sound to share, of course—and it's a brilliant one we're ecstatic to share. The EP's namesake, "Gold Braid", is, perhaps, our favorite of the four tracks, with its commitment to a kind of electronic ecstasy that's in the middle of accessible and esoteric. Multitudes of synths, slinky instrumentation, and chopped vocal cuts give it life, and it's a real joy to travel the serene sonic path the track sets down, however unusual it may first come across as. "Wait 4 Me" and "Heav'n" are the other two cuts we've yet to feature, and they both arrive at the flamboyant heights that "Gold Braid" sets down. With the former effort featuring Marilyn Baker, too, we're gifted with a more audible human presence, though, it's one manipulated through Cosby's clean cuts (we're not complaining). "Heav'n", meanwhile, takes a stricter instrumental route, with more mangled vocals amidst a slew of static synths and rhythmic kicks. Regardless the differences, though, we're enjoying immensely the dynamic electronic atmosphere Real Cosby has set out for us with Gold Braid, and we're sure with this kind of talent at his disposal, that more phenomenal works will be a part of his future, and HD pages. Buy Gold Braid for whatever price you wish on Bandcamp.
