One half of the timeless , District of Columbia-based duo, Panacea, emcee Raw Poetic continues to keep his nostalgic hip-hop roots steadfast, and his new collaborative album, Cool Convos in Quantum Speech, alongside New Jersey producer K-Def, certainly bolsters the claim. We’ve refrained from over-dissecting the body of work, simply because two pieces within, “Easy Way Out” and ‘Whisper Mercury”, do more than enough justice in revealing the project's character. “Easy Way Out” is an instant head-nodder with K-Def utilizing quintessential sub-heavy kicks and swinging snares, and beside siren-led synth work, the atmosphere is without a doubt a reminiscent one. Raw Poetic harnesses the backdrop on the piece, delivering locutions we don’t hear enough of and in a manner that’s undulating yet incredibly winsome. The second piece that drew us in is "Whisper Mercury”, and it’s one that breathes quality you’d only expect from artists like The Roots or Panacea itself, as Poetic yet again shows his effortless flow with perspective-focused rhymes and a feisty undertone. K-Def’s instrumental is definitely worth highlighting, too, with his simple chords and ageless, pattern-changing drums hurling you back in time. Check out the the two pieces below, and if they have you begging for more, purchase the entire album of theirs on iTunes.
