Phoria — Undone (Attaque Remix)

Phoria

Undone (Attaque Remix)

We don't hold back at all when it comes to our affection for Phoria, and that fact is easily visible in our review of their phenomenal Display EP. The Brighton-based five-piece has provided some of the most innovative music we've heard this year, as their sounds fluctuate within the realms of alternative, downtempo, and electronic, yet occasionally also bursts out into some more untraveled territory, such as the climactic moment of overwhelming ecstasy in "Emanate", and we absolutely love all of it, bar none. Since remixing Phoria's music isn't exactly a walk in the park, we haven't seen too many adaptations of their work, but today we see Attaque, a UK-based artist, taking on the challenge of reworking "Undone", and he's done so with absolute brilliance, we might add. The original track is a dark, beautiful ballad, and it would be nearly impossible to change this vibe, so instead of fight against the feel, Attaque has embraced it, peppered in some lofty and quite lovely elements of his own, and came up with an excellent new sound as a result. Attaque skillfully and totally restructures the percussion, while also throwing in some pristine bells to complement the original's deep piano chords. A little over a minute into the track, he speeds up the track's pace by throwing in some harder-hitting bass, rapidly occurring percussion, and deep synths, and all together allow us to be really taken aback by the dexterity with which he's seemed to handle the rework. As we previously mentioned, remixing a Phoria song is a very difficult task, but Attaque has handled "Undone" in an ingenious manner here with his remix, so kudos to him.
