Phoria

Efforttobreathe

Throughout the past month, Phoria has built a buzz about themselves in the music world, and much of this excitement has been in anticipation of their Display EP. The announcement of the EP alone didn't generate the entirety of the buzz, however, as most of it stems from the two singles that the UK five-piece carefully dropped off, "Emanate" and "Undone", both of which absolutely stunned us here at Hillydilly with their deviant structures and emotive vibes. Now, they’ve finally let loose Undone, and with its release comes the hauntingly downtempo piece, “Efforttobreathe”. Much like their previous two singles, “Efforttobreathe” begins with a downtempo feel, generated by a sparse drum beat, a dreary synth, and the vocalist’s placid croon, which is meticulously echoed and manipulated. This sound persists for about a minute and a half, but at this point, an obscure electronic call summons an army of deep synths, bringing a bold new twist to the effort. After this intense moment, the track retains its newly acquired synths while riding out with plenty of slight nuances, finishing in a tranquil, yet solemn fashion that once again demonstrates Phoria's their total mastery of their own musical niche. You can pick up Phoria’s new EP, Display, on iTunes, and if you happen to be in London, you can head down to the EP's launch at St Pancras Old Church. Also, if you're in Brighton, you can check out Phoria's headline show this Saturday at The Haunt.
