About three months ago, we saw the arrival of a brand-new producer, Pearl, and even now, we still know essentially nothing about him besides the fact that he's the only signee to JMSN's record label, White Room Records (besides the founder himself, of course). With his introductory single, "I Know", Pearl succeeded in giving himself a decent amount of attention (specifically in the community that follows JMSN avidly), and, surely, his first sounds were enticing. Fortunately for us, then, he's decided to put an end to our desire for more of his work, because today, he's unveiled his debut project, Open, and it's filled with quite a few shining gems. Pearl's first single featured a female vocalist, Alcordo, and this producer-vocalist pattern—consisting of more names than Alcordo's own—is one central to the album. In our first selection, "Lie And Cheat", we see Lauren Faith offer some smooth bars over a deep, synth-filled, and percussion-heavy electronic base, and after, we've a fresh, mystical effort entitled "Never Coming Back", with Wynter Gordon's soulful vocals on the track this time around. The venerated JMSN himself appears on "Holy Water", an obscure, tribal-sounding work of electronic brilliance; and finally, the album comes to a close with the haunting sounds of "Said", which contains vocals from POLIÇA's Channy Leaneagh. Conclusively, Pearl's debut album is a very strong offering, and while it's undoubtedly difficult to create distinct electronic music alongside so many other producers nowadays, there's no doubt that Pearl has formulated his very own quality sound here—with us absolutely digging it.
