The New Zealand-based side project of the renowned hip-hop stalwarts, Homebrewcrew, @Peace, is known for holding their own lane of creativity in the realm of international hip-hop. But as far as comparing their new album, @Peace and the Plutonian Noise Symphony, to their past material, don't even bother, because @Peace have left planet Earth with their outer space-inspired sound here; their sophomore album is ambient, weird, unorthodox and downright fascinating. Of course, not every song is going to resonate with you, but for the ones that do, the artistic efforts are quite remarkable and refreshing. As personified on the album-highlight, "Dust", suspense is built through the thumping of the kick, the eerie vocals, and liquified sounds that percolate in the background. This aforementioned tension blows wide-open when Tom Scott (lead vocalist/rapper) tears into the track with his stream-of-consciousness lines, giving us one of the best and most provoking verses we've heard this year.
