The brand of hip-hop that Los Angeles emcee Open Mike Eagle puts out has moved consistently in a unique direction, with his alternative hip-hop prominently displaying what the city's underground hip-hop scene has to offer. His latest EP, A Special Episode Of, falls no inches short of artistic satisfaction, either, and with tracks like “Dark Comedy Late Show” and “Ziggy Starfish” on top of our attention from it, we've no doubts why. The former effort sits at the heart of Eagle’s alternative tag, with veteran hip-hop producer Exile providing a guitar-based backing that pairs perfectly with the well-flowing verses of his own raps. “Ziggy Starfish”, meanwhile, is clearly the time for Open Mike Eagle’s K-Dot-esque flow to shine, as it connects the dots gleefully between the choppy beat it’s laid over.
