Olivver has been putting out a steady stream of solid music since his embarking down the solo career path. The former drummer for The Neighborhood is now firmly established and thriving as his own artistic entity, and the music that he's released is both innovative and carefully crafted (which is perhaps to be expected from a musician with his specific background). "Not Going Home" is his latest single, and once again, Olivver shows on it that he's got a keen ear for music that sits comfortably on the fringes, but is still well-made enough to be accessible to pretty much anybody who catches a listen. It's a winning formula, and the secret ingredient is the fact that it's hard to ignore its merit, even if you're not normally a fan of this type of music. That being said, it's right in our wheelhouse at HD, so, understandably, it's going to be getting a lot of love from us. The track opens up with a very somber set of piano chords, and Olivver's voice and lyrics lead you to believe you're in for one of those stripped-down piano ballads that never truly opens up, but then, out of the blue, the chorus comes in and all of a sudden your ears are greeted with a massive collection of sounds that rips the composition wide open. It's rare for songs to be structured like this, but Olivver has gone on record in the past about his desire to make music that doesn't fit any existing molds, so in light of that, "Not Going Home" actually makes a lot of sense. As a result, if you're at all a fan of music that mixes the familiar with the novel (and let's be honest, why would you not be?), then this is your jam, so get to it below.
