When you combine slick, heavy beats with a mystifying vocal like Oliver and MNDR do on "Chemicals", the result can only be on thing: a smash. Oliver, known for their punchier, EDM-leaning hits, pare it down on this track, opting for a dance-y, dark sound, and they make a wise choice in MNDR for this vocal, as she adds an airier pop vibe, as well. "Chemicals" fits solidly in the wave of nostalgia-inspired music that is coming out today, but it's able to push beyond its '80s-inspired counterparts with razor-sharp, forward-thinking production.
