It's 2017, and bedroom producers who first explored samples and sounds for fun now have massive platforms to showcase their work. Recently, we've seen a few successful album releases from artists of the sort (Mura Masa and Flume are two notable examples), but, now, it's Seattle duo ODESZA's turn to unleash their awaited new album, A Moment Apart, that comes after years of anticipation. 2014's In Return hit the sweet spot between electronic and pop, essentially pioneering a new middle ground between the genres, but, now, eyes are on them to take their sound to the next level, and, in a way, they delivered here. They recruited high-tier artists, employed authentic orchestral sounds, and released a string of excellent lead singles. Their new collaborations reveal new shades of their sound, yet, they also bring out the expansiveness and gorgeous grandiosity in them we've known and loved. In the end, A Moment Apart sounds like a bit of a plea to become film scorers rather than electronic-pop producers. It's still euphoric and gorgeous, but perhaps it lacks the same excitement that shined when their last album was out. Regardless, it certainly isn't a failure, and it would make for quite the live spectacle, so be sure to listen to it below, and check to see if they are coming to your city as well.
