The experimental, avant-garde, and art-pop genres are a polarizing force in the current musical landscape. Some say it is too cluttered and unstructured to be enjoyable, others claim they just don't get it, and the rest declare that it is simply, "not for them". Fans, however, will attest to the immense gratification that comes from the art form, the uncollimated ideas that are seemingly chaotic, yet inexplicably tethered thematically and/or aurally, creating a truly unique listening experience. It's one you can experience, too, as Liverpool avant-pop three-piece Ninetails release their latest single, "Radiant Hex". The sonic manipulations, interstitial horns, and distinctive field recordings presented on "Radiant Hex" are all tangential elements that threaten to spiral out of control at any given moment. The genius of this track is that it does not. Ninetails steers us into the skid just enough to nullify the yaw, but leave us in the passenger seat, adrenaline-fuelled, asking ourselves how they managed to pull that one off.
