Nilüfer Yanya is a name you may have come across recently with her gorgeous interpretation of “Hey” from The Pixies back in June. Now, however, the London-based artist is here to show what she can do on her own with the release of her first original single, “Small Crimes”. Supported only by the wandering plucks and note slides of a guitar—with just the slightest hint of reverb—“Small Crimes” is an artistic vehicle that showcases the incredible vocal talent that Nilüfer wields with ease. The accompanying music video consists of a series of hand-held closeup shots punctuated with home video cuts, and these accentuate well the intimate, self-contained nature of the track. As this is only the first original offering from Nilüfer, as we have stated above, we are very much looking forward to what else she has to give.
