Nicole Millar‘s new single “Taken” is in no rush to win you over, but chances are high that that will happen, anyway. Up-and-comer Xander James (XNDRJ) is on production duties, and his laid-back style works well with Nicole’s softly lit vocals. The track kicks things off with a couple of crunchy synth chords that gradually become less fuzzy as the seconds progress, and then just when you think the song is going to venture into lighter areas of the soundscape, Xander really kicks things into gear with some heavy bass inside of a beat that’s both classic hip-hop in flavor, and electronic experimental in delivery. It’s a killer combo that really pulls this track into a different league. We've premiered a previous track of Nicole’s on Hillydilly as well, so we’re excited that she’s keeping things rolling with “Taken”, and that new names like Xander James are making sure the next wave of producers will be just as good, if not better, than the last.
