NAO gifted us with her beautiful, soulful debut album, For All We Know, last summer, and, since, she's remained relatively quiet despite touring the world. After teasing some new tracks here and there, today, she has put out "Nostalgia", a track she has described as one to "hold her fans over". On "Nostalgia," NAO moves into newfound territory: dance music. Pulling obvious references to disco and early '80s funk, "Nostalgia" is groovy, effervescent, and fun. NAO's voice glides over metallic guitar licks and bubbly percussion, definitely evoking a vintage feel we easily love. As one of the leading voices in R&B, it's so refreshing to see NAO maintain her roots in her "wonky funk" style, but take herself in new directions after the success of her multiple extended plays and full-length LP as well. Though we have no concrete word on where NAO's second album will find itself, stylistically, "Nostalgia" is hopefully an indication of what we will receive. We are all fans.
