When I come across respected artists and producers who I have not yet heard about, I always feel a little bit inferior as a person, and especially as a music blogger. It's my duty to stay current with what's happening around the world of sound, but there's always a couple of names that I'm embarrassed to realize I didn't know before a particular point in my music meandering. M-Phazes, the Melbourne, Australia producer who has been around for about as long as I've been conscious of my existence, is one of these individuals I'm referencing above. The guy has been producing for the likes of revered rap artists such as Bliss n Eso, Taleb Kweli, and others, and somehow, he's been able to evade my attention for all the years that he's been pounding on his craft. That absent integration into my consciousness ended today, though, when his remix of the Brisbane three-piece, MTNS's, "Lost Track Of Time" single surfaced on my SoundCloud through a tip from a friend. Almost instantly after pressing play, I was swept into the, "I've seriously been missing this?" mindset, due to what brilliantly attractive sound I had come into contact with, and though the initial shock has since subsided, the fluid synths, crisped percussion, and impassioned MTNS vocals continue to resound in my mind. It's an effort that is absolutely catchy, and I don't think I could've been introduced to M-Phazes in any better way than through the infectious effot of his.
MTNS
