What is possibly left to say about Glaswegian producer Jon Cooper (Turtle) that we haven’t said already? Frequent readers of our pages would have undoubtedly come across one of our many gushing reviews of his solo work or reworks for the likes of Phoria, Eliza Shaddad and Robyn Sherwell, and to say that we admire his industrious work ethic and revere his articulate musical aesthetic would be an understatement of the highest order. Now, after teasing us on his Facebook page a few weeks ago, we finally have our hands on Turtle’s brand-new remix of “Hamburg” by Mt. Wolf, and, unsurprisingly, it is stunning. True to form, the changes made to the source material are minimal enough to allow the heart of the original to emanate, yet by incorporating minor changes such as the suppression of the chaotic hi-hat sample and the addition of a subtle yet swelling string arrangement, Turtle has elevated the work from lovely to downright gorgeous. If you are enjoying the sounds offered here, then make sure you mark down May 11 in your calendar, as that is the release date of Turtle's second EP, Colours.
