We had no prior knowledge of Moon Flask while listening to their very first release, "Sashu", so we were absolutely dumbfounded to learn that the band is an all-teen affair. Toby (17), Thibaud (17), and Mike (19) collaborate brilliantly throughout the effort, displaying musical prowess well beyond their years, and since the month-old gem seems only to be floating around the group's own bubble, we've taken on the role of exposing the track to you all. The Melbourne boys have unrestrictedly embraced a combination of downtempo and indie, and with Toby's impelling vocals coasting along the stellar instrumental, there's absolutely nothing amateurish about their inaugural effort. The production side of the group, headed by Thibaud and Mike, displays serious promise in the use of tweaked percussion, downtempo drums and hats, and some pristine work on the keys, but we want to be sure to give appropriate credit to Tony's exceptional songwriting skills as well, because we can't understate their importance in the piece's greatness. It's still really baffling how Moon Flask managed to strike pure gold with this one effort of theirs, but we'll be sure to keep an eye and an ear out for any of the trio's future work, relaying it on the site if at all possible.
