Montgomery — Wake Up (Arcade Fire Cover)

Montgomery

Wake Up (Arcade Fire Cover)

We’ve heard a multitude of covers of Arcade Fire’s 2004 release, “Wake Up"—most being acoustic remakes of the original—so we’re glad that Montgomery has given us a fitting change of pace with her electronic tint. We’ve been longtime fans of Montgomery’s work, and we especially enjoyed what tracks were slated in her New Clear War EP—one of our favorite indie-electronic releases of late. Here with a cover of “Wake Up,” Montgomery has stripped the original of its jamming rock and roll sound and injected her own electronic notes—ones that put the track on ice with their laid-back vibes. Its difficult not to notice Montgomery’s vocals, either, as they're a fair contrast to Arcade Fire’s harder-hitting sound. Montgomery has introduced a successful electronic tone in just about every track of hers thus far (including this cover), and we’re excited to see how it progresses down the line as she allows more influences into her work. Until then, though, we can be thankful we have this piece to supplement her spectacular New Clear War.
