Admittedly, this is a bit of a departure for us. Those of you who saw the track name and clicked on it wondering, then yes, this is a cover of the 1999 hit from pop superstar Britney Spears. Longtime subscribers to Hillydilly will know that this isn’t the first time that Ms. Spears has appeared on our pages, and although it is pretty irregular that these pop sensations infiltrate our ranks, our ethos is still to promote the best music that we can find, and we’ll be damned if this cover isn’t absolutely glorious. Stockholm newcomer MIYNT is the artist behind this particular interpretation here, and the bare-bones approach she has taken is in contrast to the delightfully brash nature of her debut single, “Nick Drake”, which was released earlier this year. The previously bright and bristly elements are substituted here for moody backing vocal wails and gentle guitar plucks, as MIYNT delivers her breathy vocal take, and the stark re-imagining is, without question, a brilliantly bold take on the old pop classic.
