Washington-based rock outfit Misun has a penchant for writing sleek, retro-sounding tunes, and their latest offering, "Penny", finds the group doing just that. "But I'm a whole new person now / Let me now show you that I know how to love you now", frontwoman Misun Wojcik insists repeatedly, backed by a simple guitar riff and a laid-back drum beat. Like so many of Misun's previous releases, the effort utilizes just a few instruments to great effect, relying on ear-catching hooks instead of intricate production to create the group's throwback sound. The result is compelling and memorable, and proves that Misun is a band with a lot of potential. Misun's debut album, Superstitions, will be out next week! (November 11th). Pre-order on iTunes.
