Misty Miller has been developing her sound since a very young age, and though her sound is one still solidifying itself, you wouldn't know it, because it really bears resemblance to that of an artist's that's been finalized for some time. She's found success with songs like "Taxicab" and "Petrified", and now, Misty's a solid base to work off of, with her contemporary music showing signs of a much braver style of experimentation than before. While most of her stuff is relatively lo-fi, "Rabbits" seems to embrace a much more informal recording process, and the end result is beautifully rugged sound. Yes, Misty's vocals are still as crisp and as powerful as ever, but it appears she wasn't too worried about scrubbing the final mix to a mirror finish, and all the little sonic nicks and burrs (which can be picked up by a focused ear) coalesce into one, smooth, musical backdrop that gives the song a sense of authenticity that is hard to come by. Don't be expecting something high-energy when you hit play on this one. In fact, it will take a couple seconds for the song to really warm up. However, your patience will be rewarded if you stick through the intro, because the guitar work and plodding drums are the perfect accompaniment for those days where all you want to do is sit back and unwind a bit. "Rabbits" is the B-side to "Taxi Cab" that will be released June 18th.
