The vast majority of new pop acts will release a few introductory singles to test out the waters, then compile their work into one or more EPs. While there's certainly nothing wrong with that tactic, we still believe that there's just something about a great album that trumps all else. And today, only eight months since their first release, Montreal-based duo Milk & Bone have decided to skip the EPs and let loose their debut album, Little Mourning, and what a fantastic body of work it is. Through their collaboration, Camile Poliquin and Laurence Lafond-Beaulne (Milk & Bone) have produced a sophisticated, incredibly tasteful blend of pop music. You're not going to find any flashy synths or ultra-poppy choruses here, but instead, you'll discover several cleverly composed songs that Laurence describes as true and raw. In their three singles leading up to the album—"New York", "Coconut Water", and "Pressure"—Milk & Bone established a distinct style that makes use of electronic and acoustic elements, while also incorporating vocals from both members. In the remainder of the album, we're hearing a deeper honesty to their sound that gives the duo excellent depth and personality.
