There are lyrical artists, and there are spiritual assassins, and Mick Jenkins is essentially the culmination of both. Yeah, the Windy City emcee spits gritty, flaunting an aggressive, wavering tone that inflects when necessary, but a closer inspection of his words reveals an author on a mission to paint provocative, intellectual points. "Free Nation Rebel Soldier Pt. 2", Mick's latest effort from his upcoming LP, The Waters, and the sequel to his similarly titled track, embodies the aformentioned tenacity, with a vivid introduction to his past, and a stark vision into his current state of affairs, both introspectively and extrovertively. There's an incredible amount of self-awareness expressed throughout the effort, and the obvious wordplay employed will have you fantasizing about games of Scrabble with Socrates and Andre 3000. The Waters hasn't an announced release date as of yet, but while you wait for the sure-to-be-spectacular body of work, check out "Forever", Mick's latest lyrical imprint, as well as the numerous other tracks he's had a hand in over the past several months.
