We feature many artists' debuts here, and many tend to make a lasting impression on us. "Crystalline", the first-ever from new artist Mhairi, shows us how she, too, can leave her mark, and her obscure brand of R&B and pop calls up comparisons to artists like BANKS, for sure. While the track exudes a woozy, skittering lilt of darkness from beginning to end, it manages to be more longing than it is depressing, and, though we do not get a sense of who Mhairi is as an artist from just this one song, her talent alone certainly calls for us to pay attention moving ahead.
