It's finally here. Californian two-piece Mexico City Blondes has been teasing their second song for a while now, but after a long wait, we finally get to enjoy the follow-up single to what will most definitely go down as the breakout hit of 2014: "Fade". To say that the track was a success would be a gross understatement, and the critical reception it in fact received is the kind that launches long and successful careers in the artistic realm. Perhaps unsurprisingly then, their second song, "Colors", is just as fantastic-sounding as their first, and it's looking more and more like we're witnessing the birth of something that has the potential to be so much more than just a flash in the pan. Just like its preceding effort, the music on "Colors" is beautifully restrained, and we can't help but wonder if other artists get jealous that MCB has been able to wow the masses with such a simple sound. Don't get us wrong, they've definitely earned the accolades, but there's a certain factor to it that you just can't replicate with extra layers of production—and this duo definitely has it. Taking this into account, they don't really need to do a lot to get their point across, and even when the music settles into a very sparse rhythm, the vibe is just so overwhelmingly cool that you can't help but get excited. Only time will tell if MCB will be able to recapture some of the overwhelming excitement that surrounded their first release, but, regardless the outcome, "Colors" seems to stand as a solid follow-up to an amazing track, and should have no trouble solidifying the duo's rising star status. You can purchase "Colors" on iTunes now.
