New Zealand and Australia are home to some great up-and-comers, and merk, an Auckland native, is as good an example of one as there is. We wrote about his cover of Fazerdaze's "Little Uneasy" just a few weeks back, and we enjoyed the colorful, creative revamp he made. He was a part of the Red Bull Music Academy this year in Montreal learning with the best of the best in the music industry, and his newest single, "Ash & Sand", shows exponential growth in terms of his sound. A precursor to his debut album dropping November 18, the new single has a bright alternative-pop sound that's rife with guitar and is extremely pleasing. A sensual falsetto is also layered in the track, and the distinctive vibe within incorporating that and the electronic production sets this track apart.
