Matt Woods

Styrofoam

When it comes to consistency, it is hard to overlook Matt Woods, an artist whose musical offerings we've been covering constantly since we premiered his breakout single, “In The Dark”, at the beginning of last year. In those early reviews, we mused that, although floored by the talent on display, we felt his best was yet to come, and, today, that sentiment is realized with the release of his Ain’t No Use EP. We were first introduced to this EP earlier this year with the release of the title track, and, coupled with the energetic sounds of follow-up single “Nothing Less”, it showed the progression of Matt as he embraced the more pop-leaning sensibilities of his otherwise soulful sound. Fans of his earlier work may feel more at home with the remainder of the EP, however, as it's populated with the unique falsetto harmonies of “Styrofoam” and the concluding vocal spectacle of “If You Forget Me”, which, featuring little more than a sparse piano arrangement, serves mainly to showcase the breathtaking vocal he has. We’ve said that the best is yet to come for Matt, and with this new EP, we've definitely some of his best work yet. We are sure this is still the opening chapter of many in his musical career, however, so we are ever-excited to hear what he has for us next.
