Marlon Roudette has had a special place in our heart ever since we first heard him alongside Preteesh (the producer) in the now-disbanded electronic-R&B act, Mattafix. Against our wishes of the pair getting back together, nothing has ever materialized since their last album, Rhythm & Hymns (released in 2007), but thankfully, the music from Marlon still lives on through his solo material. It has been three years since the London-born, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines-raised singer-songwriter released his first solo album, the cheekily titled Matter Fixed, but now he's back again to provide us with his second solo project, Electric Soul (due out August 8th), with the first single, "When The Beat Drops Out", that's being accompanied by a remix from the German house producer, Florian Paetzold. Picking a favourite between the two won't be easy. The original has the steel drum, but the remix has the better dance effect, so whatever you side with here, it's a win-win situation. "When The Beat Drops Out" is the only track to base our assumptions on what the album is going to sound like, but we've no doubts after a three-year wait that Marlon won't disappoint. Pre-order Electric Soul on iTunes (Germany only). Purchase "When The Beat Drops Out" and the accompanying remix on iTunes.
