Artist extraordinaire Mark Ronson has a signature musical style that often heavily references older sounds such as Motown and funk. However, as evidenced by his most recent release, Uptown Special, Ronson is not merely content to imitate what's been done before. Instead, he writes fresh material that's inspired by these older sounds, and he often attains mesmerizing results. What's particularly cool here, however, is that prominent Montreal producer Pomo takes a catering approach on his remix of Mark's " I Can't Lose" from the aforementioned body of work. The unmistakable sound that already exists is not wholly displaced or harshly altered at all, but rather, given a head-nodding, even more classic vibe. We're definitely heavily engaged in it, and anyone who's a fan of any of the sounds mentioned or alluded to here will as well.
