We're always searching for artists that aren't content to sound like anyone else, and British singer Marika Hackman absolutely falls into this category. Marika's got all the usual hallmarks of a singer-songwriter: a crystalline voice, polished production, and polaroid-esque cover art, but don't mistake her for another breathy voice with an upbeat chorus. Marika's latest offering, "Drown", demonstrates her remarkable penchant for writing gorgeous, occasionally eerie tunes, and with muffled drums, haunting polyphony, and her own lucid, relaxed vocals, it improves on the singer's already-impressive sound. It's really an exceptional effort, and we highly encourage you to keep your eye out for her forthcoming debut album, We Slept At Last, from which it comes off. Given the extreme quality of the track, it seems clear that Marika's definitely and deservedly on the rise.
