We always appreciate an act that continues to mutate their sound, and Brighton-based pair Mao Ra Sun has seemed to exemplify our adoration as their efforts have seen an influence from several sonic spaces. Their latest case here, a Dems-assisted piece entitled "When The Sun Hits", carriers more of an ethereal tone than their recent works, and we're definitely fans of it. The piece is technically a cover of Slowdive’s original, but that doesn't mean too much in terms of the quality sound they're able to create; it's pristine and downright poignant. With lurking, unhurried chords commencing the piece, Dems enters with his raspy yet enticing vocals setting a more than tranquil atmosphere—all the while leaving room for MSR to alter the instrumental in what way he sees fit. There is an under-lit, capering vibe embedded in the piece as well, particularly due to the hat roll and snare patterns employed by the UK-based duo, and alongside the warping, oscillating vocals that exist around them, we've a result that's thoroughly engrossing.
