Mansions On The Moon has been pumping out a steady supply of quality material for a couple years now, but "Somewhere Else Tonight", their latest track, is next-level stuff. It sounds sort of like something Passion Pit would put out if they decided to do a dance album, and it's got a lot of those same delicious falsetto vocals paired up with epic builds. Suffice it to say, we were pleasantly surprised when we heard "Somewhere Else Tonight" for the first time, and it's plain to see that these guys have landed on a near perfect iteration of of the ever-elusive EDM/indie fusion. Yes, there are plenty of big synth lines and complicated textures, and yes, they're the type you'd find in almost any other dance offering. However, Mansions has repurposed them in a not-so-subtle way to fit their style—all the while crafting a track that's structured completely differently. The drop in "Somewhere Else Tonight" isn't quite as distinct as a normal dance track, but it works here because the drum-infused build was perfectly placed to build tension. When the sonic catharsis does come in, you're led down gently into a soft bed of wavy synths and smooth vocals, with your ears gently coaxed into a world filled with bright sounds and well-placed flashes of sonic color that will sweep you away the moment everything starts falling into place. Look for their debut album dropping in October.
