If Majid Jordan is leading the charge of futuristicc R&B, prospects are incredibly bright. After their release of the 2014 debut EP, A Place Like This, on Drake's OVO Sound, the Torontonian duo became one of electronic-R&B's hottest commodities. Most of the world probably recognizes the pair's voice and production style from Drake's 2013 hit, "Hold On, We're Going Home", but on their self-titled debut album, they prove they're so much more than just a featured pair. The sea of electronically soaked R&B is vast and difficult to stand out in, but Majid Jordan's influence and sound goes way beyond what their counterparts are doing today. Their first offering from the album was "My Love", which incorporated a feature from Drake, and, together with another smash in "Something About You", displayed nice house influences and club vibes. In fact, much of the album explores different elements of house sounds, a change of pace from their EP. Prior to the release of their album, the duo also shared "Every Step, Every Way", "Learn From Each Other", and "King City", and all were stellar previews to the LP we now have here. Perhaps the biggest unheard standout is "Make It Work", however, which brings about an effortless '90s feel. To sum up the entire work, Majid Jordan is moving pop, R&B, and arguably house music into the forefront of the music sphere. Their debut has not only been one of the best of the year thus far, but it will almost certainly be hailed as one of the most memorable of the year when it's all said and done.
