Machineheart put out a 1975 cover that got some buzz a couple months ago, so this isn't their first release, but it is their first original single, and it's safe to say that they've pulled out all the stops for it. First impressions are huge for an emerging artist, and "Circles" is the best introduction we could have possibly asked for from the LA-based indie-pop newcomers. The opening of "Circles" pushes Carman Kubanda's distinctive voice front and center, and when it's accompanied by fuzzy guitar notes, you're greeted with a sound that's decidedly charismatic, yet exceedingly genuine. The track's got everything machineheart needs for it to be a breakout hit, but the five members made the right move by not sacrificing any of the artistry that other acts oftentimes replace with something easily digestible and overly accessible. We've seen a lot of other names come out of the gates at full speed, but there seems to be a refinement to machineheart's sound that goes beyond just talent or shrewd brand marketing. Listen carefully, and you'll notice that the notes and sonic undertones have enough bounce to get you singing along, but also a little bit of grit that lets you know you're not just dealing with a aspiring pop group armed with hooks and instrumentations. They're not completely preoccupied with making sure everything is a mirror finish, and because of that, they've landed on a track that is going to turn heads all over the place.
