Growing up in North Queensland from a young age, brothers Adam and Nathan Lyons shared a common interest in music. Years later the duo have formed Lyon Apprentice, a moniker under which they are producing their own style of elegant folk. Earlier this year they travelled to Cairns to record their EP with Mark Myers (The Middle East, Emma Louise) and we now have a taste of what is to come. As the delicate guitar gently breathes life into "I Will Find You", it educes a great sense of familiarity which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The tender vocal track lingers across the atmospheric panorama until the galloping percussion and unexpected horn section elevate the track to a new climactic height that sounds one banjo short of belonging on a Mumford & Sons record. The comparisons could continue, but that wouldn't do service to the brothers. Artists well in their own right, Lyon Apprentice will look to make a name for themselves in the indie folk landscape with the release of their debut EP "Be Honest, Be Wild, Be Free" early next year. We look forward to hearing what else the boys have to offer.
