Sometimes you just need a bit of upbeat pop to brighten your day, and while there's certainly an abundance of electro-pop constantly being thrown onto the internet, it's less common to see some innovative pop that doesn't make use of bright synths and the typically accompanying electronic sounds. Lowell, an up-and-coming Toronto-based singer-songwriter, is one artist here to prove that exemplary pop can still be created without using excessive electronic production. She first appeared on HD a couple months ago with her blissful pop effort, "The Bells", and after letting her debut EP sit for a while, she's now back with a brand-new single, "I Love You Money". The work has a slight bit of a throwback sound, and it's filled with playful chants, upbeat claps, tambourine shakes, and an infectious bassline. Subtle melodies chime out beneath an energetic drum kit, and Lowell's catchy chorus contains enough "heys!" and "woos!" that you might catch yourself singing along. Lowell doesn't necessarily fill the piece with a set of complex layers, but her distinct, summery style is something that we're unrestrictedly digging right now, and she's definitely got us excited for the release of her debut album, We Loved Her Dearly, on September 16th via Arts & Crafts.
